Brooks brings home SAC Player of the Week honor

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the first time this season a Carson-Newman women's basketball player was named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week. The league announced Monday that junior guard Kailyn Brooks (Lafayette, Tenn.) earned her first-career weekly honor after guiding the Lady Eagles to wins at Brevard and Coker.

The last time a C-N player earned a weekly honor from the league was on Dec. 1, 2014 when Jecca Simerly (Talbott, Tenn.) picked up the plaudit.

"It's a good way to end the regular season," Brooks said. "I was really excited about it and I just think that it's just something to build off of into the postseason getting ready for the conference tournament."

The guard scored 43 points during the week going 13-for-22 from the floor with six made three-points in eight attempts. Brooks matched a career-high with 25 points against Brevard on Wednesday evening while tallying three assists. Against Coker on Saturday, the junior scored 18 points to go along with five assists and two steals.

Overall on the season, Brooks is 11th in the conference in points per game with 13.4 per night while being the leader in the league in three-point percentage making 44 percent of her shots from distance bettering the next closest player by four percentage points while ranking third in the league with 68 converted shots from beyond-the-arc. She is tied for seventh in the SAC in assists per game at 3.2.

Brooks has 21 nights scoring in double figures including six double-digit scoring outings while tallying at least three assists 18 times.

The Lafayette, Tenn. native has made 68 three-points this season, just four behind the school-record mark set by Ashley Tipton in 2008-09 of 72. In her career, Brooks has made 120 triples, good for sixth in program history.
