ROCK HILL, S.C. – Sophomore forward Mika Wester was named the South Atlantic Conference's Player of the Week Monday afternoon after averaging 26 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and 1.5 blocks per game in victories over Anderson (S.C.) and Newberry.

The Newport, Tenn. native earns her first-career player of the week honor and is the first Lady Eagle to win the award since Kailyn Brooks (Lafayette, Tenn.) took home the hardware on Feb. 29, 2016.

In an 83-66 victory over Anderson, Wester led all players with 25 points, her seventh 20-point night of the year, while filling up the stat sheet with eight rebounds, three assists, three blocks and three steals.

On Saturday in an 83-73 triumph over the forward led the Lady Eagles with 27 points as she went 6-for-7 from the floor in the second half. It was the 17th straight game that the forward scored in double figures, the longest streak since Zoriah Williams scored in 17 in-a-row in 2011-12 to match the longest streak since 2002-03. Wester also had six rebounds and three assists.

On the year, the Western Carolina transfer has recorded nine games with at least 20 points matching the most in a single season by a C-N player over the last 15 years. Andrea Fitzgerald and Monica Ashburn registered nine games with 20 or more points during the 2002-03 season.

Overall on the season, Wester is posting 18.8 points per night, 28th in the nation while placing 14th in Division II with 135 made field goals. The sophomore is fourth in the SAC in free-throw percentage at 80 percent, fifth in total blocks at 20 and eighth in total rebounds with 220.

Carson-Newman is gearing up for a road trip against eighth-ranked Lincoln Memorial Wednesday night at 6 p.m. for a game that can be seen locally on MyVLT.
