Oldenburger snares first-career SAC weekly award

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the first time in her illustrious career, Megan Oldenburger was named the South Atlantic Conference's Player of the Week announced by the league on Wednesday after a monster start to her senior campaign.

She is the first Eagle to earn a weekly honor of any kind since Marnie Streeter took home the laurel on Nov. 5, 2018, the final week of the year. This is the fifth award she has pulled in during her four-year career.

The Cedar Rapids Iowa, native produced the 37th double-double of her career with 18 kills and 19 digs adding a pair of aces leading Carson-Newman to a four-set victory over Catawba on opening night. She moved into the top 10 on the school's all-time digs list bringing her tally to 1,124.

Oldenburger has 925 career kills through 96 matches. If she reaches 1,000 career kills she would be the 14th player in history to hit quadruple digits. The senior would be the fourth player to cross 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. Jenna Rust is second in kills and fifth in digs, Kendra Rickersten is sixth and seventh while Melissa Miller ranks ninth and eight on the all-time list.

In 339 sets played, she has racked up 106 service aces sitting at No. 10 on the school's all-time service aces table behind Daphne Epting's (1994-97) 111 for ninth.

Overall for her career, the outside hitter has 46 double-digit kill efforts and 48 double-figure dig nights at the arena. She has led the team in kills 35 times. With 3,380 total attacks, she is 10th on the school's all-time list averaging 2.73 kills per set and 3.32 scoops.

Carson-Newman is back in action on Friday night hosting Queens at 7 p.m. inside of Holt Fieldhouse before bringing Limestone to town on Saturday at 6 p.m. Both matches will air on cneagles.com/live with the Eagle Sports Network providing the coverage.
