Carson-Newman Cross Country Teams have Strong Showing at Citadel Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Carson-Newman women's cross country team claimed fourth place on Saturday in the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational at James Island County Park.

The Lady Eagles finished with 101 points. Lenoir-Rhyne won the meet with 57 points, while Savannah and Georgia College finished second and third, respectively.

Freshman Ashley Matthews (Sanford, N.C.) and sophomore Brooke Earhart (Dickson, Tenn.) led the way for C-N, as Matthews finished fourth with a time of 20:02 and Earhart crossed the finish line in 13th with a time of 21:02.

C-N senior Melissa Ford (Richmond, Va.) finished 25th with a time of 21:54, while Meredith Nix (Walhalla, S.C.) came in 29th with a time of 22:01.

Lenoir-Rhyne's Kate Griewisch won the individual title with a time of 18:35.

On the men's side, freshman Tyler Moore (Arab, Ala.) was the high finisher for the Eagles with a 24th-place showing with a time of 29:34.

Senior Jonathan Madden (Franklin, Tenn.) came in 28th with a time of 30:07.

Savannah College won the meet with 34 points, while Georgia College (41) finished second and Lenoir-Rhyne (59) was third.

Savannah's Ignacio Fernandez won the meet with a time of 26:18.

The C-N cross country teams return to action on Oct. 15 in the Royal Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.
