C-N Cross Country Teams Have Strong Showing in Royal Cross Country Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Carson-Newman cross country teams ran against a strong field in the 2010 Royal Cross Country Challenge on Oct. 15 at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C.

The Eagles finished eighth in the 8,000-meter Navy run with 182 points led by senior Jonathan Madden (Franklin, Tenn.), who finished in 15th place with a time of 28:07. Tyler Moore (Arab, Ala.) crossed the finish line in 20th for the Eagles with a time of 28:36. Justin Browning (Madisonville, Tenn.) finished 54th with a time of 30:00, while Stephen Patton (Ooltewah, Tenn.) had a time of 30:35 and Joey Nielson (Ringgold, Ga.) turned in a time of 31:24 for C-N.

On the women's side, the Lady Eagles had four individuals compete in the 5,000-meter Gold run with freshman Ashley Matthews (Sanford, N.C.) leading the way. Matthews finished 74th with a time of 19:29. Brooke Earhart (Dickson, Tenn.) had a time of 20:36 for C-N, while Amanda Bowman (Greeneville, Tenn.) and Lauren Henry (Greeneville, Tenn.) finished the meet in 21:56 and 21:58, respectively.

The C-N cross country teams return to action on Oct. 23 in the Railsplitter Invitational at Wilderness Road State Park in Ewing, Va.
