EWING, Va. — The Carson-Newman women's cross country team claimed first place, while the men's team finished second in the Railsplitter Invitational on Saturday at Wilderness Road State Park in Ewing, Va.

The Lady Eagles finished with a score of 26 and had six runners finish in the top 10 led by freshman Ashley Matthews (Sanford, N.C.). Matthews finished second with a time of 16:41. Lincoln Memorial finished second with 40 points, followed by Union College with 76 points.

Sophomore Brooke Earhart (Dickson, Tenn.) crossed the finish line in third with a time of 16:54, while senior Melissa Ford (Richmond, Va.) placed fifth with a time of 17:18. Amanda Bowman (Greeneville, Tenn.), Lauren Henry (Greeneville, Tenn.) and Stephanie Savino (Southold, N.Y.) finished seventh, ninth and 10th, respectively for the Lady Eagles.

On the men's side, the Eagles finished with 41 points with Lincoln Memorial winning the event with 28 points.

Senior Jonathan Madden (Franklin, Tenn.) led the Eagles with a third place finish with a time of 20:58, while freshman Tyler Moore (Arab, Ala.) finished ninth with a time of 22:28. Justin Browning claimed 12th place for C-N with a time of 22:48. Joey Nielson (Ringgold, Ga.) and Stephen Patton (Ooltewah, Tenn.) crossed the line back-to-back in 15th and 16th place with times of 23:54 and 24:14.

The C-N cross country teams return to action on Nov. 6 in the SAC Championships in Wingate, N.C.
