Greer leads Eagles in first race at Royal Cross Country Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carson-Newman cross country team completed the Royal Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. as the men placed 13th and the women placed 14th.

Soccer player turned cross country runner Luke Greer (Abington, Northampton, United Kingdom) led the men in his first race. The Englishman posted the 41st-quickest time in the eight-kilometer race in 27:15.5 while freshman Lachlan Dickie (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished 64th with a time just over 28 minutes. 

For the women, three Carson-Newman runners finished within 11 seconds of each other.

Freshman Tori Gaul (Salisbury, N.C.) once again paced the Eagles at the five-kilomter race. Gaul ran a 20:34.1, good enough for 62nd, and junior Hannah Kiser (Cedar Park, Texas) finished 68th with a time of 20:39.3. Sophomore Sara Honaker (Mason, Ohio)'s time of 20:45.4 placed her in 73rd.

Both teams improved their place in the standings over the 2013 competition. The men improved seven spots and the women improved by eight positions. 

The Eagles run next weekend at the Falcon Classic in Montavello, Al.
