TSWA presents Clark with State Player of the Week honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A day after earning South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week accolades, Carson-Newman junior guard Charles Clark (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) has been named the State Player of  the Week by the Tennessee Sports Writers' Association.

The award is the second of the season for Clark and the fourth of his career.

Clark's honor comes after the first triple-double in school history.

Clark turned in the historic feat against Lenoir-Rhyne in a 93-65 win over the Bears.  He produced 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 10 assists.  The bulk of the heavy lifting came after halftime.

"I'm just happy that our team is getting better," Clark said. "If it weren't for them making shots, then this wouldn't even matter."

The Murfreesboro, Tenn.-native scored 10 points after halftime while dishing out nine of his assists and grabbing eight of his rebounds.

Clark averaged 25.5 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the week.  This is the second time in three weeks that Clark has garnered player of the week honors from the league office.  He has won the award for the fifth time in his career.

"We just wanted to get out in transition (against L-R)," Clark said. "Second half in particular we were able to do that and I was able to find Shaun and Parker pretty frequently."

Clark started his week with a 27-point, eight-rebound effort against Anderson.  He shot 75 percent from the field against the Trojans.  The junior knocked down a career high six threes three days later against Lenoir-Rhyne.

With the two performances this week, Clark accrued the 12th and 13th 20-point performances of his junior season and the 39th and 40th of his career.

Clark and the rest of the Eagles will be in action on Wednesday at Tusculum.  Tipoff with the Pioneers is set for 8 p.m.  Pregame coverage starts at 7:45 on the Eagle Sports Network on Mountain Country 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
