Kim-Moss turns in second consecutive top 10 performance at AFLAC Cougar Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Carson-Newman men's golf fired three of their four best rounds of the 2013 season and concluded the AFLAC Cougar Invitational in seventh place following a third round 296 Tuesday morning at the Country Club of Columbus.

Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) shot a 72 (+1) to finish in a tie for eighth.  The finish is Kim-Moss' second consecutive top 10 finish.  Kim-Moss finished seven strokes off Columbus State's Robert Mize's tournament champion finish.

"He hit some poor holes, but this was such a marathon," Carson-Newman head coach John Minor said. "He always has room for improvement.  He'll have to take a few more gambles and aggressive to reach up into the top five.  But still, considering the competition, Jonathan should be proud of another top 10."

Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario) followed a season best 69 (-2) in round two with a 77 (+6).  Kennedy was five strokes off Kim-Moss' finish and in a tie for 23rd.

"We had a very respectable finish at seven," Minor said. "That golf course proves that a finish for a lot of teams is difficult because of the length of the tournament and the finesse required to play it well."

Corey Bray (Caryville, Tenn.) rebounded from a round two 79 to shoot one-over (72) and finish in a tie for 36th.   Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) rounded out the scoring for C-N with a 75, his second lowest round of the year.  Rafael Jackson (Rutledge, Tenn.) finished the tournament in a tie for 59th following a final round 78.

"It really is a good finish because of the quality of competition," Minor said. "We're disencouraged.  We're disappointed, but we're encouraged.  We've got two more and a lot to be hopeful about."

The Eagles head to the TVA Credit Union Classic at North Alabama after a week off on Oct. 22.
