Eagles wrap up regular season by beating No. 1 team, finish in 4th at Tennessee River Rumble

FINAL RESULTS

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. – No. 15 Carson-Newman completed its 2023 spring regular season on Tuesday afternoon by finishing in 4th place at the Tennessee River Rumble.

No. 15 Carson-Newman dropped one spot from its previous third place position entering the final round of action. The Eagles managed back-to-back team scores of 289 in the second and third rounds to finish at 5-under par for the tournament, good for 4th place. C-N defeated No. 1 Anderson by eight strokes.

"Ultimately, we had a good tournament," Carson-Newman head coach Randy Wylie said. "Hayden played well and we helped ourselves as far as NCAA regional selections come. It's always cool to be able to beat the number one ranked team as well."

Hayden Hunneke (Chattanooga, Tenn.) completed a well-played tournament with an even par round of 72. The consistent round consisted of 16 pars, one birdie and one bogey. His birdie came on the par 5, 3rd hole. Hunneke finished in a tie for 3rd place and finishes the spring regular season having finished inside the top ten in all four events. The 3rd place, 6-under finish is his fourth top five finish this season. Hunneke's stellar play throughout the three rounds earned him all-tournament honors.

Luke Stock (Oxted, England) completed his second-best tournament of his C-N career, capping the tournament with a 1-over 73. Stock's final round was highlighted by an eagle on the par 5, 3rd hole. The junior added three birdies to his final round, two of which came in his last six holes of the day. Stock finished in a tie for 11th place, his third best finish with C-N. He has now finished inside the top 20 in three events this season. He finished at 4-under par for the week.

Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.) played well on the back nine to secure a final round score of 2-under 70, his best round of the week. The under par effort allowed him to be C-N's third under par player for the tournament at 1-under for 54 holes. The graduate student made one of C-N's four eagles of the tournament on the par 5 12th hole. He added two birdies on the back nine to secure a 4-under 32. Mynatt made 12 pars in the final round to finish in a tie for 17th.

Elliot MacGregor (Shepperton, Middlesex) completed the tournament with a 3-over 75 in the final round. MacGregor played his final 12 holes of the day at 1-under par. His only birdie of the final round came on the par 5, 5th hole. The sophomore finished in a tie for 50th overall.

Antonio Farinella (Knoxville, Tenn.) put together his second-best performance of the tournament in the final round, a 3-over 75. The senior made 13 pars and one birdie as part of his final round. He made eight pars to one bogey on the back nine. Farinella finished in a tie for 71st.

No. 15 Carson-Newman tied for the most eagles (4) made during the 54-hole event. The Eagles also finished in the top five for scoring average on both the par 4s and 5s.

No. 5 North Georgia won the event with an 18-under 846 team score for the three rounds. UNG's Evan Thompson took home individual honors with a 10-under effort for the week.

The Eagles now turn their attention to the South Atlantic Conference championships set for April 16-18 in Hickory, North Carolina at Lake Hickory Country Club.
