Eagles climb leaderboard on Day 2 of SAC Championships

HICKORY, N.C. – No. 13 Carson-Newman improved by seven strokes on the second day of the SAC Championships to move up two spots heading into tomorrow's final round.

No. 13 Carson-Newman moves up to fourth place, with a 1-over 289 in the second round. The Eagles are ahead of Limestone by just one stroke and Lincoln Memorial by just two shots. C-N trails third place Tusculum by just three strokes. No. 1 Anderson has the lead at 16-under par through 36 holes.

"We're feeling better about our position after kind of a disastrous finish on the first day," Carson-Newman head coach Randy Wylie said. "We still didnt finish the last few holes well, but I am confident we can handle those holes tomorrow. Luke Stock has led the way with very consistent play. We hope to move farther up the leaderboard tomorrow."

For the second straight day, Luke Stock (Oxted, England) records an under par 71, continuing his SAC Championship success. His scorecard on day two was very consistent, as he made 13 pars, three birdies and two bogeys. Two of those birdies came on pars 5s, holes 8 and 12. Stock played his final nine holes of the day at 2-under par. The junior heads into the final round tied for sixth place.

Elliot MacGregor (Shepperton, Middlesex) picked up where he left in yesterday's round one. The sophomore was 5-under through his first ten holes of the day, making birdie on holes 5, 9 and 10 and an eagle on the par 5, 8th hole. MacGregor played his final eight holes of the day at 6-over par, falling to a 1-over 73 finish. He is tied for 13th heading into the final round.

Aidan Powter (Sydney, Australia) shaved seven strokes off his first-round score, scoring an even par 72 in the second round. Like MacGregor, Powter went on a remarkable stretch from holes 3-13. During this eleven-hole stretch, Powter made six pars, three birdies and secured C-N's third eagle of the tournament. He climbed eleven spots in round two.  

Hayden Hunneke (Chattanooga, Tenn.) produced a solid second round score, shaving two strokes off his first-round score, with a 1-over 73 in the second round. Hunneke made a team-high four birdies, two on each set of nine holes. The graduate student rattled in ten pars and is tied for 19th.

Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded three birdies in his second round, scoring a 4-over 76. Two of those birdies came on an even par opening nine holes. The graduate student made ten pars in the middle round.

The Eagles played the par 5s 7-under par in round two and are 16-under for the tournament. C-N leads the field with the most eagles (3) through 36 holes.
