JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's and women's swim teams broke five school records Tuesday night at the Second Splash, an intra-squad meet, in Maddox Pool.

Freshman Paul Ungur (Baia Mare, Romania) broke two school records in the 50 (22.71) and 100 (50.7) backstroke and Stephen Parsons (Auburn, Ala.) set the standard in the 200 Individual Medley (1:56.65).

"I've been seeing success in small ways in the water already. I know where we were at, but it's good to actually see where on a live stage like this where we are at time wise, " coach Paige McCord said after the meet.

On the women's side, two freshmen set the gold standard. Lexy Raybon (Sarasota, Fla.) swam a 5:09.51 to break the Carson-Newman's record in the 500 Freestyle by over two seconds and Maggie Melhorn (Knoxville, Tenn.) broke the school record in the 100 Breaststroke by a second with a time of 1:06.45.

"Especially with a couple of records broken and it wasn't just the night of just broken records, we had several athletes that placed second or third that really had lifetime best or season best," McCord said.
