Game One Rally Sends Lady Eagles to Split at North Greenville, 8-7 and 2-3

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles rallied from a five-run deficit in game one to grab an 8-7 win in eight innings on Monday afternoon over North Greenville University. The Crusaders took game two, 3-2, also in eight innings.

With the split, the Lady Eagles are now 7-6-1, while NGU improves to 2-5.

Game 1

Senior Whitney Kee's (Knoxville, Tenn.) eighth-inning single scored Caitlyn Lance (East Ridge, Tenn.) as the Lady Eagles completed a five-run rally to grab an 8-7 win in game one.

Kee slapped a singled to the left side to score Lance, who was placed on second base to start the inning, to give C-N the win.

The Lady Eagles trailed 7-2 in the fifth inning after allowing a six-run fourth fueled by six NGU hits in the frame.

C-N rallied taking advantage of three NGU walks, a hit batsman, and two errors in the inning. A Leah Price (Spring City, Tenn.) RBI single was the Lady Eagles' only offense in the inning.

Lance and Bri Shoemake (Ooltewah, Tenn.) led C-N with two hits apiece.

Jessie Forrester (Flintstone, Ga.) picked up the win working a perfect eighth to improve to 3-2 on the year.

Game 2

North Greenville answered two Carson-Newman runs in the top of the seventh with two of its own in the bottom half of the frame to force extra innings. The Crusaders would go to score the placed runner in the eighth inning and win, 3-2.

Leah Price (Spring City, Tenn.) stroked a two-run double in the seventh inning which was the big blow for the Lady Eagles, scoring Mary Shealy (Clinton, S.C.) and Caitlyn Lance (East Ridge, Tenn.). Both singled to lead off the inning.

Lady Eagle starter Jessie Forrester (Flintstone, Ga.) allowed just three hits and two earned runs in the loss. Shealy (LP, 4-4) took the loss in extra innings.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Wednesday when it plays host to King College (Tenn.). First pitch of the doubleheader is at 2 p.m.
