Georgia Southwestern sweeps Lady Eagles, 6-3 and 4-3

AMERICUS, Ga. — Georgia Southwestern swept the Carson-Newman softball team on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 6-3 and pulling out a 4-3 victory in nine innings in game two at Lady 'Canes Field.

With the losses, the Lady Eagles fall to 21-10-1 on the season. The Lady Hurricanes improve to 16-20 overall.

In the first game, the Lady Eagles pounded out 10 hits but were unable to generate more than three runs.

Junior Mary Shealy (Clinton, S.C.) went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI to lead the way, while sophomore Bri Shoemake (Ooltewah, Tenn.) also went 2-for-4 for C-N. Freshman Sara Kelley (Birchwood, Tenn.) added two hits with a double and a run scored, and Kim Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) also had two hits. Whitney Kee (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Amy Lawrence (Knoxville, Tenn.) each chipped in a hit and a RBI in the loss.

Shealy was tagged with the loss after giving up four hits and five runs. She also had two strikeouts in the game.

In the second contest, Georgia Southwestern's Gabby Buck delivered the game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning to lift the Lady Hurricanes to a 4-3 victory.

Whaley went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored to lead the Lady Eagles, while Shealy and Kelley each had a hit and a RBI. Kee contributed a double, while Shoemake scored two runs

Shealy (18-8) took the loss after giving up four runs and 12 hits and striking out two in nine innings of work.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Monday at Eckerd. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
