JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (17-7, 4-0 SAC) takes an eight-game winning streak on the road, traveling to Wingate (13-11, 4-0 SAC) for another challenging South Atlantic Conference battle.
The Eagles are coming off a doubleheader sweep over then-No. 23 Lincoln Memorial, earning a hard-fought comeback win in game one before a run-rule victory over the Railsplitters in game two to secure their fourth-straight doubleheader sweep. The run-rule win over LMU marked the eighth time Carson-Newman ended a game in less than seven innings.
Carson-Newman's stellar stretch has put the Eagles at the top of the conference in multiple offensive categories. C-N leads the conference in batting average (.388), is second in hits (248) and RBIs (192). Additionally, C-N's team batting average is second in the nation, its 192 hits rank sixth, and the Eagles' 38 home runs lead the nation.
The Eagles travel to Wingate to see a Bulldog squad who took two from C-N last year in Jefferson City. The Bulldogs are on a seven-game win streak over the Eagles, with the last C-N win coming in 2022.
Like C-N, Wingate has had a nice streak of its own. The Bulldogs are winners of five of their last six, with four of those wins coming in SAC doubleheader sweeps over Anderson and Emory & Henry. Wingate's lone loss in its previous six games came in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader against UNC Pembroke.
Wingate's offense has been middle of the pack in the South Atlantic Conference this season, ranking eighth in the conference in batting average (.309), and is right around that spot in hits (214) and RBIs (121).
The Bulldogs are led offensively by Hali Scott and Hannah Stevens, with 20+ RBIs through the first stretch of 2025. Scott is second on the team in batting average (.359), mashing three home runs and bringing 20 in through 20 starts. Stevens is right below Scott's mark at the plate (.357), matching a team-high in home runs with six and 23 RBIs. Matching Stevens' long ball production is Savanna Brooks, hitting six so far in 2025. The two Bulldogs are tied for sixth in the South Atlantic Conference in home runs.
Wingate has been stellar in the circle, posting the third-best team ERA (3.27) in the South Atlantic Conference. Hali Scott leads Wingate in ERA (2.33), tossing 42 innings and posting a 3-3 record in nine appearances. She is second on the team in strikeouts with 48. Jillian Thomas has thrown a team-high 59 innings, posting a 2.37 ERA and a 7-4 record in 15 appearances. She leads the team in strikeouts, setting down 61.
Scott and Thomas have only thrown three complete games in 14 combined starts between them. The Bulldogs have looked to Lily Robbins and Lily Huneycutt in relief roles. Robbins has pitched 25.2 innings, with five of her ten appearances coming in relief, posting a 4.09 ERA. Huneycutt has 19 innings under her belt in 2025, appearing in seven games with a 6.63 ERA.
The Bulldogs and Eagles are deadlocked in the all-time series at 18-apiece. Before the seven-game streak that Wingate currently holds, the Eagles won the five prior games. However, the Eagles have not won at Wingate since 2021.
In the two losses last year, the Wingate pitching staff held C-N's offense at bay, allowing just four runs in two games and outscoring C-N 17-4.
The Eagles look to break a six-game losing streak to Wingate and add to the eight-game winning streak tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at noon.
