Spradlin Named SAC Pitcher of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After three stellar performances featuring two complete games, freshman Lorelei Spradlin (Blacksburg, Va.) has been named SAC Pitcher of the Week for the first time.

"It means a lot," Spradlin said. "I've worked really hard to get to where I am. Also, I just know that I can't be the pitcher of the week every week. Having that accolade is cool, but God says I'm more than just that."

Spradlin's first pitcher of the week honor comes after a week in which she threw no less than six innings in each of her three appearances, tossing two complete games and striking out 18 batters, including a season and career-high nine against Davis & Elkins. Spradlin's 40 strikeouts are tied for third in the SAC despite appearing in two fewer games than the top arms, LMU's Halle Grace Patton and Emory & Henry's Malorie Reeves.

"One of my early goals was to go in and finish both physically and mentally," Spradlin said. "I wanted to be confident in myself. I'm really grateful for the opportunities that coach [Michael] Graves and Holly [Tucker-Vance] gave to me this past week. I'm proud of myself for being able to compete and produce."

Another highlight for Spradlin was dealing only one free pass in 19.1 innings of work. The only walk came late in the win against game two win against Shorter.

"Taking it one pitch at a time has been key," Spradlin said. "Another goal for me was to cut down on walks, so I'm glad I could do that. I have Kennady [Warder] working for me behind the plate, which was also very helpful. Just getting to know Holly [Tucker-Vance] more, she knows which pitches to throw when."

Spradlin has cut her ERA from the mid-5s to 3.83 by allowing only three earned runs in her three appearances last week.

Spradlin and the Eagles are back in action on Saturday, squaring off with Southern Wesleyan in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at The Vick.
