C-N's Bailey Named SAC Player of the Week After 8-RBI Opening Weekend

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the fourth time in her career, Carson-Newman's Macauley Bailey has been named the South Atlantic Conference and WePlayed player of the week after a stellar opening weekend at the plate.

In the three games against Kentucky State and Concord, Bailey hit .571 with five hits in seven at-bats, plating eight runs.

"I was seeing the ball very well," Bailey said. "We've been talking about being selective and picking out pitches, which really helped me this weekend."

The junior also showed discipline, walking three times, bringing her on-base percentage to .636.

"It's super hard for me to take walks," Bailey said. "I've definitely been working on that for the past two seasons. My approach was if they gave me something, to attack it, but if they didn't, pass the bat to Santana [Anderson] or Brooklyn [Lucero] because they're equally as good, and I trust them."

Three of Bailey's five hits were for extra bases, including two home runs on Sunday against Concord, which vaulted her into sole possession of third place on the Carson-Newman all-time home run list with 32, surpassing Mary Shealy, who hit 31 from 2009-12.

After a 3-0 weekend, Bailey and the Eagles return to The Vick on Wednesday to host in-state adversary Lee in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.

Both games will be available on FloSports ($) and an audio stream on cneagles.com/live.
