GREENSBORO, N.C. – Day one at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships has begun and C-N swim will have a hand full of athletes' center stage.
During Wednesday's preliminary swims, C-N swim came away with a school record in the 200 yard medley relay and earned a spot in the evening finals after recording a time of 1:42.65.
Margaret Stansberry (Backstroke), Maggie Melhorn (Breaststroke), Elly Culp (Butterfly) and Lisa Postma (Freestyle) competed for C-N in the prelim swim recording the seventh-place position
Lisa Postma (Leiden, Holland) turned in a top end performance in the morning swims as well after a new season-best time in the 50 yard freestyle turned in a time of 23.15 seconds tying the junior for sixth with Mikaela Lantz out of West Chester and Lara Marshall from Queens.
Caleb Howell earned a 'B' qualifying time in the 200 yard individual medley after a 14th-place finish with a time of 14:48.86. The native of Easley, N.C. beat out Wingate senior swimmer Sebastian Holmberg, who had topped Howell and collected a third-place finish at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in the event finals a month ago.
Melhorn also competed in the 200 individual medley narrowly missing out on the 'B' final after finishing 17th with a time of 2:04.77.
Jon Lancaster (Ringgold, Ga.) turned in a time of 1:50.90 in the same event checking in at 33rd-place.
The consolation and championship finals will begin from the Greensboro Aquatic Center at 6:00 p.m.
