NORFOLK, Va. - The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America has announced the 688 teams that have earned the distinction of Scholar All-America team for the fall 2017 semester as the Carson-Newman men's swim team comes away with the highest GPA in all of Division II at 3.66. The C-N women's team also cracked the top-five with a GPA of 3.64.
The teams represent 430 institutions from across all NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA Divisions. To earn the honor, teams were required to post a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the fall semester.
The CSCAA recognizes Scholar All-America Teams for both the fall and winter semesters, with individual scholar all-americans awarded in the spring.
"I think it's awesome how every year, both teams continue to raise their GPA," Coach Jordan Taylor stated. "The whole team is so motivated to be the best they can be both in the pool and in the classroom, and this have been evident in the national rankings. Really proud of the men's team as they have improved in a big way and now lead the national ranking for the first time in program history."

It marks the fifth-straight year that both C-N swim teams have earned the CSCAA Scholar All-America honors in either semester. Following the 2017 spring semester the men's team had the eighth highest GPA at 3.41 while the women made the jump from No. 23 with a 3.50 GPA.
On the men's side, seven different athletes had a perfect 4.0, 16 others had above a 3.5 and were a member of the dean's list.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is the oldest organization of college coaches in America. The CSCAA is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.
