JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.— After clinching the 2016 Carson-Newman Fall World Series Monday afternoon, B-Rob's Blue Bantus exploded for 21 runs off 18 hits to cut down Haeberlee's Orange Juiceman 21-4 in Game 5 at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
The Bantus jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Greg Jones (Maryville, Tenn.) in the clean-up spot. Ryan Addington (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored after leading off the game with a base knock of his own as B-Rob's bunch immediately applied the pressure in Game 5.
Blue got back on the scoreboard in a big way in the inning that followed, scoring eight, two-out runs off six hits to take a commanding lead. 11 batters came to the plate during the frame that was highlighted by a three-run home run from Konnor Ambrose (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.).
Addington followed suite with a two-run dinger of his own in the top of the third, bringing in Connor Powell (Rogersville, Tenn.) who reached on the second of his three walks in the ballgame.
Trailing 11-0 with only two hits in the game to date, Jordan Hinshaw (Elizabethton, Tenn.) jumped all over the first pitch he saw from Bantu's starter Harley Thompson (Tullahoma, Tenn.) to put a drive into deep center field. The long ball put the Juiceman on the board for the first time in the game to gain a run back into the 10-run deficit.
Team blue batted around once again in the top of the fourth inning highlighted by yet another three-run home run by Ambrose. Addington tallied an RBI double in the frame as well while Joey Sellitto (Newton, N.J.) recorded a sacrifice RBI.
Haeberlee's Orange Juiceman responded by recording their most productive inning at the plate in the bottom of the fourth—scoring three runs off three hits that was sparked by another leadoff home run.
Cade Snapp (Seymour, Tenn.) began the frame with a ball hit to Tater Town off Thompson. An error and a fielder's choice RBI from Trevor Lee brought in the other two runs as the Bantu's lead was cut to only 13 runs at 14-4 after four.
The Blue squad put up four more runs on the day in the top of the sixth inning when Ethan Goforth (Blacksburg, Va.) drove a 1-0 fastball over the 18' foot wall in left for a two-run shot while Mark Treadway (Friendsville, Tenn.) and Will Findley (Wilmington, Del.) applied the additional runs in the frame.
Every pitcher from the Orange squad was maxed out by the end of the sixth inning, so a joint decision was made to end the game. The Blue Bantus finished strong in Game 5 of the series to put an exclamation mark on the 2016 Carson-Newman Fall World Series.
Picking up the win for the Blue squad was Thompson who pitched four innings of four run baseball—striking out a pair and walking two. Brett Badacour (Ringgold, Ga.) took home the loss for the Orange after tossing only 1 2/3 innings of eight-run baseball.
Ambrose finished the day 3-for-4 with two three-run home runs for the Bantus while Addington recorded a four hit day with a home run as well. Hinshaw and Snapp both went yard for the Orange in the loss.
Tuesday marked the final tune up for Carson-Newman baseball in the fall training session as the club now sets its sights on North Georgia for a Feb. 3 season-opening tilt.
