Griswold Qualifies Third in SM8 200m Individual Medley

RIO de JANIERO, Brazil – Competing in his third event of the Paralympics Saturday morning, Carson-Newman sophomore Robert Griswold (Freehold, NJ) qualified for the final in the SM8 individual medley by swimming the third fastest time in the opening heats. He'll have a chance at his second medal at 4:43pm this afternoon in the final.

Griswold's time of 2:28.32 was only bested by China's Maodang Song and his time of 2:28.21 and top qualifier Oliver Hynd of Great Britian and his 2:25.48. Griswold was also the fastest American in the pool this morning, as he outswam Indiana's Evan Austin.

This is the third of four events for Griswold at the Paralympics. After competing in the S8 400m freestyle last week, the New Jersey native captured a bronze medal on Tuesday in the S8 100m backstroke, setting a new American record with a time of 1.04.68. He will also be swimming the backstroke leg of the 4x100m medley tonight at 7:32pm.

A livestream of all the events can be found on TeamUSA.org.
