CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Carson-Newman swim team began the final day of the Bearcats Midseason Invitational on Saturday morning at the Keating Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"It was a mixed morning," coach Jordan Taylor said. "We have some strong positions heading into tonight's finals."

The early schedule included 14 events in which the Eagles competed against student-athletes from Cincinnati and Indiana State University.

Maggie Melhorn (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned C-N's initial first place finish of the day in the women's 100 individual medley, where she posted a time of 59.42.

Jon Lancaster immediately followed by clocking in at 52.40 in the men's 100 IM, more than two seconds ahead of the previous Carson-Newman record and also good enough for the top spot in the race.

The finals in all 14 of these events will be held on Saturday evening, the third and final night of competition in this invitational. The first swim is scheduled for 5 p.m. A recap of the competitions will be available on cneagles.com after the final race.
