Men move up another five spots, Women fall back in latest polls

NORFOLK, Va. – Both the men's and women's swim teams at Carson-Newman held their spots inside the top-25 in the latest  TYR / College Swimming Coaches Association of America Division II Polls released Wednesday afternoon. The men's squad moved up another five spots to No. 14, while the women fell back to No. 16.

The C-N women previously held the No. 9 spot which was the highest national ranking ever in the CSCAA poll for the Eagles.

After starting the preseason at No. 24, the C-N men have moved up five spots in the second-straight CSCAA poll.

Since the last poll release on Nov. 14, the Eagles were the only Division II team to compete in the University of Tennessee Mid-Season Invitational which featured the likes of D1 powerhouses in Duke, North Carolina, Marshall, Penn, Denver and the Volunteers.

Many lifetime and season bests rained down for the Eagles over the three day period despite finishing on the tail end of the team rankings.

Wingate, Cal Baptist, Grand Valley, Tampa, Colorado Mesa and West Florida all leaped the C-N women's in the poll. UC San Diego, who was not previously ranked, jumped all the way up to No. 3.

C-N started the year at No. 18 in the preseason poll released on Oct. 17.

As for the men, C-N jumped ahead of Saint Leo, Mckendree, Florida Southern, Tampa and Missouri S&T.

The Eagles will continue training over the course of the Christmas break as they get set for a dual meet against King University on Jan. 26.
