JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman swim team gets set for its first competition of the season when they will battle it out against other teammates in the Blue's v. Orange Intersquad meet on Friday, Sept. 22.

"Main reason for this is to get the freshman introduced as to what a college dual meet is going to look like and just get them racing against each other," said Coach Jordan Taylor. "It gives us a good chance to practice their race skills and see where they are at."

The race gives the Eagles a dress rehearsal before heading to Limestone for a dual meet on October 7th, the team's first of the season.

"Seeing our three international athletes get the chance to perform tomorrow will be interesting to see because they race in a different size swimming pool," explained Taylor. "It's a much different ballgame when you have more turns in a shorter pool."

Internationals race in an Olympic-size swimming pool where the length is 50 meters. The length of the majority of collegiate-size swimming pools are 25 yards, or 22.86 meters.

The format for the intersquad meet will require the senior captains to draft their own teams and look at the strengths and weaknesses when generating and choosing their events. It gets the team starting to think a more when picking lineups, giving them an opportunity to see how the coaching staff thinks each week.

"It's really exciting. We will get to see where we are after a few weeks of hard work," said senior Margaret Stansberry. "It's always great to see where your times are at and be able to work towards your goals for later in the season."

The Blue's v. Orange Intersquad meet is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
