C-N swim preps for final two days of BMC Championships

Friday Morning Preliminary Results

Friday Evening Heat Sheet: Finals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Day three preliminary swims have commenced for Carson-Newman as they look to gain some ground on Queens and Wingate before the final day of competition tomorrow.

Both men's and women's teams hold a third-place position in the team rankings. The men C-N swimmers have collected 386 points in two days and the women have tallied 183.

Queens leads the way on both sides at 380 points in the women's division and 614.50 in the men's. Wingate comes in at No. 2 with 296 in the women's and 461.50 in the men.

Following an impressive day two in which seven Eagle swimmers were named All-Bluegrass Mountain Conference across multiple events, C-N still has ample opportunity to add to that list.

CJ Jensen turned in a third-place finish in the 400 yard individual medley preliminary swims on Friday with a time of 4:30.82.

Senior Margaret Stansberry also collected third-place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.96.

Maggie Melhorn turned in a second place time in the 100 yard breaststroke crafting a new school record at 1:02.20. In the same event, Bethany McNabb turned in a 13th-place finish but earned a new campaign-high time at 1:07.73, nearly two seconds better than her previous.

"We looked really good this morning," Coach Jordan Taylor said. "We had a lot of best times and a lot of finalists. It was great to see that Maggie collected a school record in her event."

Elly Culp rounded out the top-six times in the 100 yard butterfly with a new season-best time in the event at 56.34.

Mary Northcutt posted her best time of the year in the 100 yard backstroke at 58.33 which collected seventh-place during the a.m. sessions. Kelsey Robins recorded a new season-high in the event as well completing the race in 1:01.32, over two seconds better than the previous time.

Caleb Howell and Jon Lancaster both cracked top-six times in the 400 yard individual medley. Howell's time of 3:57.52 came in as the third-best time during the preliminaries with the senior Lancaster at No. 5 at 3:59.23.

Nikola Tadic recorded the sixth-best time in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:40.31 and was the only swimmer in the top-six not from Queens or Wingate.

Josh Terrell had the eight-best time of 56.94 in the 100 yard breaststroke collecting a new season-best for the Lawrence, Kan. native. Garrett Stelling posted a sub one-minute time in the event for the first time this season at 59.96 breaking his previous high which hovered near 1:03.

In each of the final swims, any athelete who finishes in the top-six is named All-Conference in that event. For relays, you can earn All-BMC for a top-three finish.

Friday evening's swims are slated for a 5:00 p.m. start. A live stream for the event can be viewed here.
