GENEVA, Ohio- Carson-Newman men's swimmer Daniel de Oliveira swam the 100-yard butterfly finals in 46.63 seconds to place seventh and earn All-American status during the Eagles' second full day of competition at the 2024 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships this evening, Mar. 14.
Carson-Newman men's swimmer de Oliveira grabbed All-American honors this evening, Mar. 14 with a 46.63-second 100-yard butterfly time. De Oliveira placed seventh in the championship final with a new personal record in the event. He finished the prelims for the event in seventh during the morning session where he swam his first personal best time of the day in 46.65. Teammate Arthur Gluzman also swam during the prelims. He finished in 29th in 48.34.
On the women's side of the 100 fly prelims, Chrisman Rand finished the event in 55.55. Rand landed in 19th place in the preliminary round. De Oliveira swam again in the men's 200-yard freestyle prelims where he finished 24th in 1:38.72.
The men's and women's 400-yard medley relays competed this evening, Mar. 14. Kyla Blakemore, Breanna Belcher, Kennadi King, and Rand raced for the women and finished ninth in Division II to garner Honorable Mention All-American honors. The women finished the race in 3:43.92. For the men, de Oliveira, Gluzman, Asger Hartvig, and Daniel Ribeiro each swam a leg to finish 11th in 3:11.18. The men earned Honorable Mention All-American honors for their efforts as well.
Tomorrow, Mar. 15, Blakemore will compete in the women's 100-yard backstroke prelims during the morning session that begins at 10:00 a.m. Belcher will race in the women's 100-yard breaststroke prelims in the morning as well. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team will compete during the evening session that is set to take place at 6:30 p.m. The championships will be streamed live on NCAA.com and can be found HERE.
