ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman pitcher Lindsay Dean (Coeburn, Va.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
Dean notched a pair of one-hit shutout wins for the Eagles last week. She got her week started with eight strikeouts in a five-inning win over Bluefield State on March 2. Four days later against Clark Atlanta, Dean tossed seven innings and struck out six hitters.
The sophomore came within a hit in each game of tossing a perfect game. The Eagles played error free defense behind her and Dean didn't walk anyone in either game.
The plaudit is the first of the season for Dean and Carson-Newman softball. The honor is Dean's second of her career and comes a year and a week after she won her last one.
Sarah Howard was Carson-Newman's last pitcher of the week honoree, she earned it on March 24 last season.
