Siebert notches second career CoSIDA Academic All-District honor

AUSTIN, Texas – Carson-Newman softball second baseman Elayna Siebert (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been lauded by the College Sports Information Directors of America with an Academic All-District accolade, the second of her career.

Siebert was an academic All-American last season and is looking to become Carson-Newman's fourth two-time Academic All-American.  Football's Chris Horton won the award in 1993 and 1994, as did Keith Ackard in 1999 and 2000.  Carson-Newman's baseball program produced the Eagles' other two-time Academic All-American in Brandon Burchfield who won the honors in 2006 and 2007.
Last year, Randall Freeman earned academic All-America honors in the same season for both football and track and field.

Siebert tallied a .383 average to lead the Eagles. The senior had 36 RBI, four dingers and four triples in her senior season.  The 36 runs batted in rank ninth in the league while the four triples are the fourth highest total in the conference.

The Karns High School graduate collected the fourth, four-hit day of her career against Bluefield State, coming a home run shy of the cycle that day.  She matched her own school record for doubles in a single game when she connected on three in April against Wingate.
