Apicella, Webster garner Chick-Fil-A Athlete of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman baseball's Vince Apicella (Dillsburg, Pa.) and softball's Allison Webster (Charlestown, Ind.) have been named the Chick-Fil-A Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Apicella worked his 10th career complete game and fourth career shutout to improve to 6-2 on the year in a series-clinching 3-0 victory over Newberry on Saturday.

The left-hander struck out nine while walking three and giving up three hits. The Dillsburg, Pa. is 10th in the nation with four complete games on the year, seventh nationally with 75 punch outs and 20th with six victories on the season.

Webster generated a 3-1 record over the last seven days across four starts. The junior hurler gave up six earned runs on the week and carried a 1.56 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 27 innings of work.

Webster started her week with a nine strikeout performance in a complete game, three-hit shutout of Brevard.  She didn't give up more than two earned runs in any one contest.  Opponents only hit one extra base hit off her for the week.

Additionally, Webster hit a go-ahead, three-run home run to push the Eagles past Brevard in the second game of that doubleheader.
