Lady Eagles Extend Winning Streak to Four Matches with 3-0 Sweep of Anderson

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman volleyball team stretched its winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 (27-25, 26-24, 25-18) sweep of Anderson on Saturday in South Atlantic Conference Action at Holt Fieldhouse.

With the victory, the Lady Eagles improve to 9-3 on the season and 3-3 in the conference. Anderson falls to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in SAC play.

Junior Nikki James (Cookeville, Tenn.) led the way as she set tallied two block solos, 10 block assists and six kills. As a team, C-N collected 13 blocks. Senior Carly Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) produced a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs, while Carly Swisher (Fort Collins, Colo.) added 12 kills and three block assists, while Rachael Bowlin (Morristown, Tenn.) added seven kills, 11 digs and five block assists.

Freshman Courtney Lawson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and senior Lara McDonald (Salem, Va.) had 22 and 20 assists, respectively, and tallied 11 digs each. Angelle Hayes (Brentwood, Tenn.) chipped in 18 digs.

Jamie Lancaster (Fountain Inn, S.C.) paced Anderson with 13 kills and 17 digs, while Tori Calhoun tallied seven kills. Lindsay Doggett (Jacksonville, Ala.) had a double-double with a match-high 35 assists and 13 digs.

The Lady Eagles trailed 23-20 in the first set before battling back and outscoring the Trojans 7-2 for the win.

The teams fought back and forth in the second set as well, with Anderson reaching match point with a 24-23 lead. However, the Lady Eagles took advantage of a Trojan serving error to tie the match, and James and Mozgai combined on a block for the decisive point to give C-N a 26-24 win.

The Lady Eagles then dominated the third set as they built an early 10-2 lead and cruised to the 25-18 victory behind a .444 hitting percentage.

C-N returns to action on Tuesday at Mars Hill. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
