ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman pitcher Robby Thigpen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Thigpen fired a complete-game in his only appearance for Carson-Newman last week, earning a win over Brevard. The right-hander gave up just three runs in the outing, striking out seven and walking none.
The senior right-hander held the Tornados scoreless through seven innings as the Eagles won the weekend opener, 6-3. He leads the Eagles this season with three wins and is second on the team with 19 strikeouts.
The complete game is Thigpen's second of the season. He had a complete game win against Augusta State (Ga.) in first series of the year. He'll take the mound again in the Eagles' weekend opener at Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday in Hickory, N.C.
Lincoln Memorial infielder Curt Fuqua was selected as the SAC Player of the Week.
The Eagles face L-R on Friday at 2 p.m.
