ROCK HILL, S.C. – Senior Bo Ausmus (Jefferson City, Tenn.) was named first team preseason All-South Atlantic Conference Wednesday morning by the league's coaches a year after being tabbed a second team All-SAC pick and a gold glove winner.

"My main focus this year is something I haven't done very well in the past," Ausmus said. "Help the players around me play to their full potential. That's my main goal this year. I'm not worried about any of the accolades or anything because all-in-all senior year the main thing to do is just win."

Ausmus led the Eagles a season ago in batting average (.360), slugging percentage (.617), on-base percentage (.429), runs scored (35), hits (63), RBI (32), doubles (15), triples (3), home runs (8), total bases (108), walks (19), stolen bases (5), two-out RBI (14) and batting average against RHP (.386).

The senior amped up his game in conference action as he hit .394 against SAC pitching with 11 multi-hit contests. His .394 average was fifth among SAC players with his 41 hits against SAC hurlers was third best.

Overall, Ausmus compiled 63 hits to rank fifth among league players and 40th at the Division II level. His 15 doubles were fourth in the SAC and 39th nationally while his eight dingers tied for sixth in the conference and ranked 40th in America.

Ausmus had separate hitting streaks of eight, 11 and 12 games in 2014 as he had 17 mutli-hit games and nine multi-RBI efforts.

In a group of seven seniors and a lineup that features four seniors, Ausmus looks forward to his final season.

"Trust the guys around me and just have fun," Ausmus said. "I think everyone on the team knows what they are capable of. We are a senior-dominated team and we just have to trust each other and have fun."

The Eagles hit the road for their first contest of the season when Carson-Newman travels to Gaffney, S.C. to challenge the Limestone Saints in a game scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
