Yocom, Dean honored as Bojangles Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman baseball's Quinton Yocom (Cable, Ohio) and C-N softball's Lindsay Dean (Coeburn, Va.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athlete of the Week.

Yocom also earned South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. Yocom tossed his third career complete game shutout and fourth overall complete game by blanking the Anderson Trojans last Friday 5-0. The righty struck out a career-high 12 batters, walked two and allowed just three hits.

The Trojans first hit of the day didn't come until the fifth inning after issuing a leadoff walk in the frame. Yocom struck out a batter and induced a double play ball to end the frame.

Dean went 1-0 this past week with a career high nine strikeouts in the Eagles' 15-1 win over Fort Valley State Thursday.

She only walked one, surrendered one hit and the run that the Wildcats managed to score came as the result of back-to-back Eagle errors.

Dean only needed 67 pitches to do her damage in that game in the circle. She faced just four above the minimum for the contest.

She boasts a 1.69 ERA on the season which is good for sixth best in the SAC.  Dean joins outfielder Bre Lockett (Fontana, Calif.) as the Eagles' SAC Player/Pitcher of the Week honorees this season.
