NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Senior first basemen Evan Jurjevic (New Carlisle, Ind.) was named the Player of the Week in the Volunteer State by the Tennessee Sportswriters' Association Tuesday afternoon marking the first time that a Carson-Newman baseball player has earned the accolade.

Jurjevic is coming off of a week where he hit .565 (13-for-23) with a home run, three doubles, 10 RBI and seven runs scored during a 4-1 week for the Eagles. The New Carlisle, Ind. native had four three-hit outings bring his season total to eight three-hit games as part of 14 multi-hit outings this season.

The first basemen has led a Carson-Newman offense that is scoring 11 runs per game over the last six contests.

"I think putting in more time in the cages and relying on our hands," Jurjevic said. "We have a lot of upperclassmen on the team and I think the hard work is paying off and the coaching staff is working hard with us."

Jurjevic played in 38 games a season ago but had just 117 at-bats compared to 113 at-bats in 29 starts in 2015 to give him every day consistency about being in the lineup.

"I just prepare myself each day to play," Jurjevic said. "Whatever happens, happens, but whatever I can do to help the team win."

The senior leads the team with a .398 batting average in 2015 that includes a team-high 25 runs batted in and 14 doubles. Jurjevic has reached base safely in 26 straight games.

Carson-Newman is back on the diamond this Friday at 2 p.m. for the start of a three-game series with the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
