JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head men's basketball coach Chuck Benson has announced the hiring of former University of Tennessee graduate assistant coach and former Bellarmine basketball player Adam Eberhard as an assistant coach for the Eagles.
Eberhard joins the coaching staff at Carson-Newman after a year on Rick Barnes' staff at Tennessee.
"We are very excited to have Adam join our staff," Benson said. "His experience as a player at the collegiate and professional levels, along with his time at Tennessee, make him a uniquely valuable addition to a staff that I am already confident in."
Prior to joining the UT staff, Eberhard spent two seasons playing professionally in Germany (2019-20) and Luxemborg (2020-21). He was a professional teammate of former Carson-Newman men's basketball player Grant Teichmann in Germany with the Heidelberg Academics.
A native of Evansville, Ind., where he attended Reitz Memorial High School, Eberhard finished his four-year collegiate career as one of the most decorated players in program history at Bellarmine (2015-19).
"I'm so happy to be here," Eberhard said. "Any time you can go from graduate assistant to assistant it's going to be a good move. It's awesome that this was right down the road from UT. It came down to the guys here. The small college feel that is here is something that I really value. The things that will mesh the most with my experiences are the players here and how much they want to play for each other. That's a program that I want to be a part of."
The 6-8 forward was a three-time All-American with the Knights and concluded his career with the fourth most points (1,860) and third-most assists (493) in program history. In 131 career games, he made 99 starts while averaging 14.2 points, 5.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.
He shot 59.2 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from three.
Eberhard recorded five career 30-point games and finished his four-year career with 1.83 assist-to-turnover ratio.
He has a degree in Sports Management from Bellarmine.
