Coach of the Year
Stephen Lyons (Men's Soccer)
Stephen Lyons led one of the best seasons in Carson-Newman men's soccer history. After starting 0-2, the Eagles won seven straight matches, outscoring their opponents 17-5 and recording three straight shutouts. The Eagles wrapped up the regular season winning four of their last five matches, including a shutout of 11th ranked Limestone to clinch the Eagles' SAC record 11th conference regular season title. For his efforts, Stephen Lyons was named SAC coach of the year for the second time in his career.
Mike Mincey (Women's Basketball)
The 11th-year head coach once again has the Lady Eagles in the national conversation sitting in the top 25 for three weeks and in the receiving votes category in each week. Carson-Newman is leading the conference in scoring for the seventh straight season ranking in the top 10 of the country. Six of the team's nine wins on the year are by double figures.
Chuck Benson (Men's Basketball)
Benson has guided Carson-Newman to within spitting distance of the top 25 this year. The Eagles have one of the top defenses in the country and have given up fewer than 40 percent shooting and 65 points per game in the month of December.
Randy Wylie (Men's Golf)
Wylie led his team to not only a win at the Queens Invitational, but coached sophomore Jonathan Nielsen to his first collegiate win. The C-N squad never finished outside the top 10 in any event.
Kelsey Hutson (Women's Golf)
In her first year with the Eagles, Hutson managed to coach her young squad to several bright spots throughout the fall. The freshman and sophomore heavy Lady Eagles only finished outside the top three in one event this fall.
Jordan Taylor (Swimming)
Taylor has seen his programs, both men's and women's, maintain top-20 national rankings throughout the fall. The women's team has been as high as #6 while the men have seen rankings as high as #11 in the CSCAA national poll this fall. Taylor and his staff have also seen multiple athletes set new individual career highs as well as reshape the program's top-five times including three new program records at the UT Invitational (two by Igor Dantas and one by Nicolas Lenuza).
