Team Performance of the Year

Volleyball v. Lenoir-Rhyne

Against the eventual SAC Tournament Champions and Regional Runners-Up, Carson-Newman took an early lead and overcame two set points to secure a sweep, 25-23, 25-18 and 26-24, at Holt Fieldhouse on Oct. 19. Julia Wheeler was the only player in the match with double figures racking up 15 on a .250 hitting percentage adding eight digs, four aces, three block assists and two assists. Lenoir-Rhyne entered in the top 25 nationally in blocks per set with 2.30 per game but recorded a season-low tying four rejections.

Men's Golf at Queens Invite

For the first time since 2019, the Carson-Newman Men's Golf team is came home with a win. Carson-Newman comes out on top of a impressive field full of South Atlantic Conference foes. Lincoln Memorial University's Harry Lord took home the indivdual win, while Carson-Newman was able to take home the top team spot. The Eagles' three round total of 827 was just enough to edge out the University of South Carolina Aiken by one stroke and give the Eagles sole posession of first place. Winning the Queens Invitational marks the first win for coach Randy Wylie's program since taking the UNG Fall Invitational in October of 2019

Volleyball at Anderson

Battling against the eventual SAC regular-season titleholders, the Eagles handed the Trojans one of their three home losses on the year. Carson-Newman overcame a first-set loss to beat Anderson in four frames, 16-25, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-21, on Oct. 16 against the No. 2 seed in the Southeast. Wheeler wowed again on the floor racking up 23 kills on an eye-popping .367 attack percentage adding 13 digs on the day. The rest of the Eagles attack produced 28 smashes but recorded 24 errors with Erin Edwards chipping in nine kills. Hildenbrand dished out 44 assists with six digs and four service aces to guide the Eagles offensively to a .144 hitting percentage. Anderson (12-6, 7-4) recorded a .214 mark with 50 kills marking the first time in 2021 that the Orange and Blue won a match in nine tries where its efficiency number was lower than the opponent.

Women's Soccer v. Coker

As C-N celebrated its annual Senior Day, the Eagles made sure to send the seniors off on a high note. Carson-Newman would end up scoring nine goals in the match, setting a new high for goals scored in a single match under head coach Simon Duffy. The last time C-N scored nine goals in a match was 2016 when the Eagles upended USC-Aiken 9-0 on the road. Within the action, freshman Sydnee Duncan netted her first collegiate hat trick with goals in the 18th, 23rd, and 54th minute as she became the first Eagle with a hat trick since October 2018 and the first Eagle to gather six points in a match since September 2018. The Eagles also saw graduate student Emilee Futrell net her 35th and 36th career goals in the matter of two minutes to move into seventh all-time for career goals in CNWS history. The Eagles' 9-0 throttling of Coker was capped off by junior Katie Koumiss's first career goal in the 88th minute. After it was all said and done, C-N fired off 42 shot attempts which was the most by an Eagles team since October 2016 when C-N fired off 55 shots against Brevard. The Eagles also held seven assists on their nine goals, a mark that had not happened since September 2018 when C-N had six assists against Lees-McRae.

Men's Basketball v. Anderson

Carson-Newman had to contend with the country's fifth-highest scoring duo when Anderson came to Holt Fieldhouse. Quin Nottingham and Crosby James entered the game averaging 40.3 points per game.  C-N held the pair to 17 (all from Nottingham) as Carson-Newman's defense delivered an 80-57 win.  The Eagles limited Anderson to season lows for points (57), shooting percentage (34.3), three-pointers made (four) and three-point field goal percentage (21.1).  All the while, Carson-Newman suffered through an off-shooting night, knocking down 40 percent of its shots – a season low. However, the Eagles grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and scored 22 second chance points to pave the way for a fourth straight win this year and a third straight over the Trojans.

Women's Basketball at Tusculum

Carson-Newman scored 37 points in the third quarter to build up a 32-point lead to blast Tusculum 94-68 to start South Atlantic Conference play on Nov. 17.  The Lady Eagles picked up their biggest win over Tusculum (1-2, 0-1) since winning by 37 on Jan. 21, 2015. It was the largest road win by the program since winning by 39, 94-55, on Jan. 26, 1999. Overall in the matchup, the Orange and Blue shot 52 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle by 14, 42-28. C-N forced 21 turnovers and scored 24 points off of the giveaways getting 42 points in the paint.
