This time, Duncan didn't break any records, but he did set up Carson-Newman's defense for success in a 52-10 homecoming victory over North Greenville.
The junior from Morristown kicked off six times with four touchbacks. The Crusaders average starting field position with Duncan kicking was their own 22 yard line.
Duncan also nailed six extra points.
"Kickoff is such a mental thing," Duncan said. "There's no rush, the ball's sitting there like a pumpkin for you. This week, I tried to approach the ball slower and the ball was coming off my foot really well."
Duncan welcomed the honor, but called it unexpected this week.
"This is one of those blessings in disguises," Duncan said. "I'm really appreciative of it. It means a lot but it's all accolades. I'd definitely take the victory every time."
The honor is Duncan's second and the third overall of Carson-Newman. Brandon Baker (Miami, Fla.) won the conference's offensive player of the week award after a 200-yard, three-touchdown effort in the opening week versus Glenville State.
Mars Hill quarterback Jon Richt was named the SAC Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 370 yards and four touchdowns in the Lions' 35-28 win over Catawba.
SAC Defensive Player of the Week Jared Seate led Wingate to a 27-10 win over Newberry on Saturday, improving the Bulldogs to 3-1 in the conference.
Seate anchored a dominant Wingate defense in the win, finishing with a game-high 14 tackles, including two tackles-for-loss. The senior linebacker also recorded a pass breakup.
The Eagles stay out of conference and begin a three-game road trip with a visit to UNC Pembroke Saturday. Kickoff for the contest is slated for 2 p.m. The Coca-Cola Eagle Sports Network hits the air at 1 p.m. with the Farm Bureau Tailgate Show on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville) and 106.3 ESPN Radio The Zone (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) as well as online at cneagles.com.
