Duncan blasts kickoffs, nets second straight SAC Special Teams Player of the Week award

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman kicker Curt Duncan (Morristown, Tenn.) is the South Atlantic Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and the third time this season.

Duncan is the only three-time player of the week award winner for either the offensive, defensive or special teams awards.

Duncan kicked off six times in the Eagles 31-10 nonconference road win over UNC Pembroke Saturday.  Three times, the kicks went for touchbacks.  The junior's thunderfoot limited the Braves to an average starting field position of their own 19 following his kicks.

The Eagles kicker stayed perfect on extra points for the season, going 4-4 and also nailed a 25-yard field goal.

Both Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week came from L-R.  Jarrod Spears led Lenoir-Rhyne to a key victory over Mars Hill on Saturday by rushing for 125 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries. His touchdown runs of 47 and 31 yards in the third quarter helped L-R rally from a 21-3 deficit.

Joe Anderson, the SAC Defensive Player of the Week, finished with a game-high 14 tackles for L-R.  He also returned a third-quarter interception 26 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bears a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Duncan and the Eagles stay on the road for game two of a three-game road trip at Brevard.  Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.  The Coca-Cola Eagle Sports Network hits the air at noon with the Farm Bureau Tailgate Show on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville) and online at cneagles.com.
