Football splits squads, readies for Orange v. Blue Spring Game Tuesday at 4 p.m.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman football has taken the final step toward the 2013 rendition of the Orange and Blue game by dividing up its available players to the respective squads.

The game is slated for a 4 p.m. kickoff Tuesday at Burke-Tarr Stadium.

Freshman quarterback De'Andre Thomas highlights the Orange team while David Freeman will be the lead signal caller for the Blue squad.

Both players scored a pair of rushing touchdowns last year for the Eagles, while Thomas was the only Eagle other than Brandon Haywood to actually throw a pass last season.  The SAC's co-offensive player of the year Haywood graduated from the program.  Thomas, Freeman as well as Toby Slagle and Goose Manning seek to fill his shoes.

Andy Hibbett is the only running back with major experience that is available to participate in the spring game.  Hibbett will suit up for the Blue team.  The Gibbs product rushed for 652 yards and eight scores last year.

Second team all-conference tackle Alex Taylor as well as 12-game starter Robby Ignagni will help clear the way for Hibbett on the line.

They'll have to deal with an Orange defensive front that boasts of two highly touted newcomers in David Way and former Texas recruit Taylor Bible and nine-game starter Jamar Neal who provided 38 stops and 3.5 tackles for loss last year.

Neal's younger brother Javaris – the reigning SAC defensive freshman of the year – lines up for the Blue on defense.

Javaris Neal and William Alderman will have to generate a push against an Orange offensive line featuring Lucas Mathis – who started every game at guard for the Eagles – and Derek Evans, a mid-year transfer from Appalachian State.

The Blue team gets the edge at linebacker with two starters in last season's leading tackler Jonathan Sites and Jarelle Emanuel, while the Orange team gets starter and second leading tackler Greg Beauduy

Anthony Baskin returns from injury to rove the secondary for the Orange team while Xavier Stevens and Jarrett East-Brown will don blue Tuesday.

*note players not eligible to participate in spring ball, or who are injured were not placed on a team
