Carson-Newman's Finlay, Hill earn Daktronics All-Southeast Region men's soccer honors

BANNER ELK, N.C. — Senior defender Matthew Finlay (Liverpool, England) and junior forward Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England) were named to the 2010 Daktronics All-Southeast Region team, region officials announced Tuesday.

Finlay and Hill both garnered second team honors. They helped guide the Eagles to a share of the South Atlantic Conference regular season title, as C-N finished the year at 12-5-1 overall and 8-1 in conference play.

Finlay, who was also a first team All-SAC selection this season, anchored a C-N defense that produced four shutouts and allowed 27 goals in 18 matches. He also scored one goal. Finlay was a first team Daktronics All-Southeast Region selection a year ago.

Hill led the conference in shots (78), was third in points (27) and fifth in goals scored (11). He had three match-winning goals and produced a hat trick in a 4-2 conference win at Lenoir-Rhyne. Hill also received first team All-SAC honors this season and was a first team Daktronics All-Southeast Region selection in 2009.

Anderson University (S.C.) junior Lasse Sohrweide was named Region Player of the Year.

The Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Teams are voted on by the sports information directors of the Southeast Region. The region is comprised of the Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt Conference, and the South Atlantic Conference, in addition to independents King College (Tenn.) and North Greenville University.

Members of the first team are now eligible for Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America honors.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
