Eagles Drop Season-Opener to Saint Leo, 5-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The 20th-ranked Carson-Newman men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to Saint Leo on Thursday at McCown Field in the season opener for both squads.

The Eagles fell behind 2-nil in the first half, and Saint Leo tallied three goals in eight minutes in the second half to put the game away.

Saint Leo finished with 13 shot attempts, including nine on goal, while the Eagles finished with 11 shots with four on goal.

Jonathan Glenn scored a pair of goals to lead Saint Leo, while Edgar Herrera, Odyss Economides and Aaron Gendreau each had one goal.

Junior forward Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England) scored the lone goal for the Eagles.

Saint Leo's Jake Hirst picked up the win in goal as he finished with three saves and one goal allowed. C-N keeper Michael Alley (Kingsport, Tenn.) tallied four saves in the loss.

The Eagles return to the pitch on Sunday at home against Pfeiffer. Match time is 4 p.m. at McCown Field.
