TSWA Tabs Tom Read As Player of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn – Carson-Newman junior midfielder Tom Read (London, England) has been selected by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association as the Player of the Week for the period of September 12th-18th. Read scored a goal and collected three assists during the past week.

On Monday, Read assisted on the only goal of the night when his cross on a corner kick found the head of Samuel Amure (London, Englad), who connected for his first career goal. The Eagles used that goal to beat USC-Aiken 1-0.

Five days later, Read sparked the offense again in a 3-0 defeat of conference foe Newberry. After assisting on his team's first goal of the match, Read took a free kick from 20 yards out and booted it perfectly over the wall and into the upper left corner of the net for his second goal of the year. He added another point to his total in the game's final minute, assisting on a goal by Travis Whitt (Waxhaw, N.C.).

Read's three assists during the week give him a total of seven on the season, which is the most in Division II. His 11 points are tied for the most in the SAC.

Read is the first player on the men's team to be named player of the week in 2016.

Read will lead his teammates into action on Wednesday night when they host Mars Hill at 7:30pm at McCown Field. The game will be broadcast live on cneagles.com/live and live stats will also be available. A complete recap will be posted on cneagles.com.
