YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Carson-Newman (0-1-1) could not overcome an early goal allowed, falling to Young Harris (1-0-1) on Sunday evening at the YHC Soccer Field.
The loss is the second straight meeting that Carson-Newman has last on the road by a 1-0 tally against Young Harris.
"Couldn't fault the lads tonight," Carson-Newman men's soccer head coach Stephen Lyons said. "Felt after the first ten minutes, we grew into the game and were the better team in longer spells. Our movement was much better and tempo moving the ball too. Now, we just need to be a little more consistent in the final third."
Young Harris had the game's first real opportunity. In the 7th minute, Sergio Llopart took aim at goal but C-N goalkeeper Federico Simonetti made a diving stop on the shot toward the center of goal.
Shortly after, Le Louarn Leho dribbled into the corner and sent a cross into the box where Thomas Kleinpenning flicked into into the lower right corner of goal to start the scoring for YHC in the 10th minute.
Carson-Newman had corner kick opportunities in the 15th and 18th minutes but failed to make anything of those chances.
Despite gaining quality possession throughout the half, C-N was held without a shot the entire first half.
The Eagles registered their first shot in the 51st minute, as Isaac Pascal took a shot from outside the box that missed high.
C-N's defense kept the deficit at one, blocking three YHC shots in a ten-second span, all of which were taken inside the box.
Jakob Lechner took C-N's next chance in the 72nd minute. His shot was toward the top of goal but saved by the Mountain Lions keeper Ian Aycock.
Pressing forward late, the Eagles were able to create multiple chances down the stretch. Paul Csmarich (Vienna, Austria) took a shot from distance which forced a save in the 80th minute. That went down as C-N's fourth and final shot of the game. In the final seconds, The Eagles won a free kick in their attacking half but could not take advantage late.
Carson-Newman ended the match with eight corner kicks to YHC's five.
YHC outshot C-N 14-4 and 6-2 on goal.
Off the bench, goalkeeper Paul Moser made his first appearance with Carson-Newman. In 56 minutes on the field, the graduate student made three saves.
Five different Eagles were shown a yellow card in the match to YHC's one.
Carson-Newman is back on the field on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., when it hits the road again for a non-conference battle against Montevallo.
