Turnovers plague Lady Eagles in 62-36 loss to USC Aiken

GREENWOOD, S.C. — The Carson-Newman women's basketball team was unable to overcome turnovers and a poor shooting night as it opened its 2010-11 season with a 62-36 loss to USC Aiken in the Division II Tipoff Classic at Horne Arena.

The Lady Eagles (0-1) shot 26.1 percent (12-of-46) from the floor and turned the ball over 28 times, which led to 27 USC Aiken points.

Sophomore forward Whitney Moody (Blountville, Tenn.) tallied seven points to lead C-N, while Megan Hunter (Ashland City, Tenn.) added six points. Guards Candis Clear (Memphis, Tenn.), Mandy Mendenhall (Kingston Springs, Tenn.) and Kiki Locket (Flagstaff, Ariz.) chipped in four points apiece.

Nakia Pinkney paced USC Aiken with 16 points and six rebounds, while Triahna Harris tossed in 11 points and Hannah DeGraffinreed scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win.

As a team, USC Aiken shot 37.1 percent (23-of-62) on the night.

The Lady Eagles return to the hardwood on Sunday in their second of two games at the Division II Tipoff Classic as they will face No. 4 Lander, the tournament host. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
