WINTER PARK, Fla. — The Carson-Newman women's basketball team dropped a 79-64 decision to No. 14 Rollins College on Thursday afternoon in the Rollins Holiday Classic at Warden Arena in Winter Park, Fla.
The Tars knocked down 11 3-pointers and scored 28 points off of Lady Eagle turnovers en route to improving to 12-0 on the season. With the loss, C-N falls to 5-7 overall.
Freshman forward Shannon Depew (Newport, Tenn.) fired in a career-high 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Lady Eagles, while junior forward Zoriah Williams (Calera, Ala.) added 12 points in the loss.
Kristina Mingos tallied 17 points to lead four Tars in double figures, while Kourtnie Berry and Jasmine Bradley pitched in 14 points apiece. Amber Heistan tossed in 13 points for Rollins.
C-N shot 43 percent (24-of-56) from the floor but was just 3-of-15 from behind the arc. Rollins scored at a 45 percent clip (27-of-60) and made 11-of-23 attempts from 3-point range. The Lady Eagles held a 39-32 advantage on the boards.
The Lady Eagles got off to a hot start, outscoring the Tars 11-0 in the first four minutes. However, Rollins responded with a 37-7 run to take control of the game as it went into the locker room with a 42-28 lead.
C-N trimmed the Tars' lead down to eight points at 57-49 on a 3-pointer by senior Katlin Moore (Fort Mill, S.C.) with 11:03 remaining, but Rollins pushed its lead to 19 points with a 16-5 run to put the game out of reach.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Jan. 5 in a South Atlantic Conference matchup at Brevard. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
