C-N vaults into D2SIDA national poll at No. 23

D2SIDA Top 25 Rankings

EDMOND, Okla. – In the first top 25 rankings released by D2SIDA on Tuesday, Carson-Newman checked in at No. 23 marking the fifth straight season that the program has been ranked for at least one week in any of the major polls.

The Lady Eagles have spent a total of 52 weeks inside of Division II top 25 polls, the second-most of any team in the South Atlantic Conference already holding the records for most weeks in the top five and top 10. Coach Mike Mincey has guided the unit to a total of 30 weeks as a ranked club over 10 years boasting a record of 35-10 in that time.

Carson-Newman is one of four teams from the region to be a top 25 team and one of the two representing the South Atlantic Conference. Lander is sixth, Tusculum is 10th and North Georgia is 15th.

The Orange and Blue have won each of their three contests this year winning over Newberry, Anderson and Limestone. C-N has held a double-digit lead in 12 straight games and 76 of the 97 overall.

Braelyn Wykle (Greeneville, Tenn.) leads a trio of double figure scorers with 23 points per game shooting 51 percent from the field. The sophomore has scored at least 20 in all three games and 13 of her last 20 outings dating back to her rookie season.

Senior Addison Byrd (Nashville, Tenn.) is not far behind with 15 points per game converting at 50 percent from the floor and 53 percent from long range.

Mincey's unit is slated to hit the hardwood for the first time in 35 days Saturday afternoon against Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 p.m. Broadcast coverage airs on cneagles.com/live with audio and video streams along with the home of C-N athletics, The Mountain 106.3 WPFT-FM, starting at 1:45 with "The AEC Countdown to Tip-Off" on the Eagle Sports Network.
