Eagles conclude Full Moon BBQ Invitational with strong round

CALERA, Ala. – For the second consecutive tournament, Carson-Newman's women's golf team tore a course to pieces of the second day of the event.  With a team 307, Carson-Newman had the second best round of the day at the Full Moon BBQ Invitational in Calera, Ala.

Only tournament champion Lander shot better than Carson-Newman with a 304.

The Eagles finished seventh with Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) scoring her second consecutive top-15 finish.  Hawkins countered an 81 yesterday with a 76 (+5) to tie for 13th for the tournament.

"This was a totally different day," Carson-Newman head women's golf coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "The girls trusted in themselves.  Now we've just go to work on getting a better start in the first round. They need to trust and believe in themselves at all time."

Four of C-N's five golfers saw their scores improve from day one to day two of the event.  Mary Tunnell (Cordova, Tenn.) made the biggest jump, slicing 11 strokes off her score from day one to day two with a 74 (+3).  She closed the event with a 159 (+17) to tie her teammate Daniel Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.).  Baiunco followed yesterday's 79 with an 80 (+9).
