MONROE, N.C. – After day 1 and roughly 33 holes of golf at the Dr. Jerry Surratt Memorial, Carson-Newman sits in a tie for first place.

The second round was not fully completed due to darkness and will be resumed tomorrow morning before the final round begins.

After the opening round C-N was in third place with a 17-over 310 score. Despite not finishing the second round, C-N managed to make up its deficit in round two and is tied at 34-over par with Lincoln Memorial, heading into the final day.

Carson-Newman is currently ahead of three ranked teams, No. 16 Wingate, No. 18 Lander, and No. 21 West Florida.

"Nice play from Caroline (Nemes) and Hannah (Holland) today in really tough cold conditions on a difficult course," Director of Golf Randy Wylie said. "I'm proud of the way the leadies competed as a whole team, everything trying and grinding through the adversity. Hoping for a great finish tomorrow."

Caroline Nemes (Orlando, Fla.) put together her best round of her best round of the season to start the day. The sophomore opened the day with a 1-over 73. She made two birdies and three bogeys in the spectacular performance. Her birdies came on two of the par 5s, holes 9 and 16. Her opening round included 13 pars. Through 15 holes in round two, Nemes is 3-over par. She made birdie on the 12th hole, a 150-yard par 3. Nemes enters the final day in a tie for 2nd place.

Hannah Holland's (Sale Creek, Tenn.) opening round back nine was key to the graduate student firing an opening round 5-over 77. She made two birdies and six pars on the back nine to record a 1-under 35. Holland made back-to-back birdies in her second round. Like Nemes, she is also 3-over through 15 holes in round two. She is in a tie for 5th place.

Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) was C-N's fourth counted score in the first round. The graduate student went 10-over to record an 82 to start the tournament. She finished strong by making par on five of her last six holes of the round. Cummins carried that momentum into the second round, where so far, she has made four birdies, three of which came on the par 5s. She is even par in the second round with two holes to play and is in a tie for 10th place.

Ellie Haughton (Lincolnshire, England) began her day with an opening round 6-over 78. The senior did not record any birdies in round one, but made 13 pars, including six in a row at an early point of her first round. Haughton has managed to make seven pars in the second round and is 10-over par with three holes left in the round.

Ida Peterson (Copenhagen, Denmark) began the tournament with a 11-over 83. The freshman made seven pars during the first round. As the day went on, Peterson began to find a rhythm. She played her final five holes of the day at 2-under par and is 6-over in round two, with two holes to go.
