Five tournaments highlight women’s golf fall schedule

Suzanne Strudwick Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's golf coach Suzanne Strudwick has announced the first five events for her program's 2015-16 season as the Eagles will embark on a quest to defend their South Atlantic Conference title earned last season.

"We are totally excited about coming in with the momentum. I think we still got it. The girls are still talking about winning the conference championship. I think we are going to have a couple more weeks to prepare, which I think will help."

The Eagles kick off the 2015 campaign with a trip to the Tar Heel State to compete at the Ross Resorts Rollins Invitational at Mid Pines Country Club in Southern Pines, N.C. At last season's Rollins Invitational, Carson-Newman placed sixth against some of the top teams in the South/Southeast Region.

"We want to be known as that elite level competition so, not only with our recruiting, how we recruit, but for the school and the program. We don't feel like we are out of place playing there. We feel like we belong. And coming in off a conference championship, I think proves that."

Carson-Newman will play host to its next event as the Eagles welcome teams to the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate at Sevierville Golf Club. Last season, C-N played two events in Sevierville with a victory at the 2015 SAC Championships being the highlight of the year.

After taking a week off, the Eagles will return to action in Myrtle Beach, S.C. at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate that will be played at Sea Trail Golf Club. South Atlantic
Conference foes Lincoln Memorial and Lenior-Rhyne are co-hosting the event.

The week following the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate will bring Carson-Newman back to East Tennessee for the Lady Flames Shootout at Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, Tenn. The Lee University Flames will host the event. The course stretches over 6,600-yards and plays as a par-72 on the scorecard.

The last event will serve as a preview of the SAC Tournament course as the Wingate Bulldogs host the tournament at Monroe Country Club in Monroe, N.C. on October 19th and 20th. The top two teams from last season SAC Tournament will be competing with Carson-Newman and Wingate participating.

"We are excited. I think it gives all the conference teams an opportunity to kind of do their homework. You really do; you have to prepare, you have to mentally think about things. Having a tournament there, previewing it, is an awesome thing for us to then go in and know how to prepare for it in the spring."
